Waiting on Wednesday (52)

Waiting on Wednesday is a bookish meme created and hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine.

Each week, bloggers and readers share some of the upcoming titles that they are very eager to get their hands on.

It's pretty simple to participate in Waiting on Wednesday:

  • Create your own Waiting on Wednesday post that features an upcoming title (or titles) - I usually only go with one book a week because seeing all the titles can be a bit overwhelming for me.
  • Be sure to credit Jill somewhere in your post (see how I credited her above?)
  • Link up to the Linky on Jill's blog so that others can see your post

Waiting On...

Title: Marked
Author: Laura Williams McCaffrey
Publisher: Clarion Books
Publication Date: February 16, 2016
Sixteen-year-old Lyla lives in a bleak, controlling society where only the brightest and most favored students succeed. When she is caught buying cheats in an underground shadow market, she is tattooed—marked—as a criminal. Then she is offered redemption and she jumps at the chance . . . but it comes at a cost. Doing what is right means betraying the boy she has come to love, and, perhaps, losing even more than she thought possible. Graphic novel–style vignettes revealing the history of this world provide Lyla with guidance and clues to a possible way out of the double bind she finds herself in.

Why I'm Waiting...

Marked, by Laura Williams McCaffrey, was actually a surprise on my doorstep a few weeks ago. (Thanks to HMH!) As soon as I read the synopsis, I knew that I just had to give this book a chance. It's been a very long time since I've read a dystopian novel that I've really enjoyed, and the concepts in this novel - crime, underground markets, and education - really just stand out to me. Oh, and I kind of peeked through the book, and I'm really excited that there are some illustrations in the book!

What Are You Waiting On...

It's time to sound off in the comments. Feel free to let me know what books you're waiting on. You can either tell me in the comments or you can leave a link to your own Waiting on Wednesday post.
